Melons
Our Summertime melon programme is well known in New Zealand. Based heavily around watermelon, product is grown in a number of north island locations to offer continuity of supply, and a degree of assurance against weather events in any one production area. We have three key growers, and the option to source beyond that should it be necessary. Being an annual crop, keeping tabs on all the different supply possibilities is important, so customers can know what to expect in advance of any gluts or shortages.
Varieties
Both seeded and seedless varieties are grown, depending on location and suitability of the different strains. Fruit is typically packed into the preference of key retail customers. Outside of the New Zealand summer season, we import moderate volumes from Australia to maintain the category’s presence.
In addition to watermelon, rockmelon is also offered, seasonally grown in New Zealand, otherwise imported from Australia.
